Data Scientist
The Analytical Chemistry research group at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen is looking for a Data Scientist available as soon as possible. The employment period is four years. The place of employment will be at Campus Frederiksberg in central Copenhagen. The estimated start date is 1 June 2023 .
About the position
The data scientist position is centered on the development and implementation of workflows for chromatographic and mass spectral signal processing and on the subsequent statistical analysis and compound identification. The specific objectives will be the extraction of better chemical fingerprints from a combination of data sets via machine learning and data integration algorithms, and the improvement of the scalability of our data processing pipelines. The work will mostly be carried out within the framework of three research projects. The main project is CONTAMINOMICS (Novo Nordisk Foundation infrastructure project) for chemical and ecotoxicological fingerprinting of complex matrices via effect directed analysis. The secondary projects are AQUAPLEXUS (Innovation Fund Denmark – Grand Solutions) on chemical fingerprinting of drinking water and ARAGORN (Horizon Europe) on soil remediation. The data scientist will be responsible for the maintenance of the data management and processing infrastructure and will work in close collaboration with other researchers in the two projects and in the group. The data scientists is also expected to assist in other relevant projects.
The candidate is expected to be enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary academic environment supporting research and teaching. The position, therefore, requires a highly motivated scientist who is comfortable working in teams, have good interpersonal skills, as well as a collaborative and open mind-set.

About us
The Analytical Chemistry Group hosts the Research Centre for Advanced Analytical Chemistry (https://plen.ku.dk/english/research/env_chem_phys/ac/). The centre operates on multiple levels in the value chain, going from fundamental research to education and application of analytical methods, often in collaboration with industry.
We are a very dynamic group of approx. 30 people working on various aspects of analytical chemistry, from basic analytical chemistry to chemical fingerprinting of a wide variety of sample matrices. We work with projects in Denmark as well as abroad and work closely with a number of industrial partners.
Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Employment will be as academic employee or special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
