Topic description: Trade, diplomacy, technology, and violence propelled Western Europe’s global expansion from roughly 1400 to 1600, a historical period better known as the Renaissance. This course will provide a thematic overview of the production and consumption of art and architecture in the context of Renaissance Europe’s expanding encounters with the Levant, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.
