Primes dialyzer and bloodlines; records patients’ medical information and vital signs.
Oversees the dialysis treatment from start to finish, including cannulation, catheter access, cleaning and dressing of permanent and temporary catheters.
Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and records the information.
Identifies irregular dialysis reactions and notifies appropriate medical team members.
Secures blood bags, teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness by explaining post‑treatment home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self‑administration of medications if needed.
Maintains medical inventory and provides pre‑ and post‑procedure care to patients.
Performs other position‑related duties as assigned, depending on setting, such as conducting home visit assessment for home hemodialysis admission following Nephrologist orders.
