Responsibilities

• Primes dialyzer and bloodlines; records patients’ medical information and vital signs.
• Oversees the dialysis treatment from start to finish, including cannulation, catheter access, cleaning and dressing of permanent and temporary catheters.
• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and records the information.
• Identifies irregular dialysis reactions and notifies appropriate medical team members.
• Secures blood bags, teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness by explaining post‑treatment home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self‑administration of medications if needed.
• Maintains medical inventory and provides pre‑ and post‑procedure care to patients.
• Performs other position‑related duties as assigned, depending on setting, such as conducting home visit assessment for home hemodialysis admission following Nephrologist orders.
