The General Dental Council (GDC) is the UK-wide statutory regulator of the dental profession. We protect patients by ensuring all dentists and dental care professionals are qualified, competent, and registered with us.
External examiners are registered dentists who attend each sitting of the ORE and provide reports to the ORE Advisory Group to assist in its academic quality assurance. The ORE is an exam that overseas qualified dentists have to pass in order to register with the GDC. Registration allows dentists to practice dentistry unsupervised in the UK.
Responsibilities will include approving draft papers and details of tests, reporting on any amendments, and ensuring questions conform with GDC guidelines for the assessment of candidates.
