This is a special sub-program within the general Vocational Training / Rotation based student program. You will focus mainly on the SAP Basis skills and knowledge-topics.
**What is SAP Basis?**
SAP Basis is the very foundation of the SAP landscape – the thing that holds it all together. An SAP landscape is made of different modules, which accomplish different tasks within a business. Those modules rest on a common database and operating system, and work together to run day-to-day business operations. SAP Basis is the set of tools that link the software together, ensuring that the SAP landscape can function as an effective whole.
**Who is an SAP Basis Administrator?**
A Basis administrator’s job is to make sure that all of the SAP components and applications can communicate with one another—and make this happen without any performance degradation for end users. The SAP Basis Administrator is thus responsible for the management of the SAP environment.
The job consists of two main areas:
+ SAP and OS Administration Operations
+ Database Administration
**The daily tasks include:**
+ Daily maintenance: Basis admins review logs, troubleshoot errors and ensure that the system is functioning as it should.
+ Job scheduling: the system needs to perform various automatic background jobs, which consume resources. The admin must carefully schedule these jobs when user demand is low, so they don’t affect performance.
+ Planning ahead: Ideally, the admin should perform needed adjustments to the landscape before end users are impacted. This requires careful planning and anticipation of long-term trends.
+ Projects: the SAP Basis administrator plays a key role in planning and executing system upgrades and migrations. They’re also in charge of transport management — testing software updates to make sure they’re compatible with the landscape. They also have to ensure that they’re installed in the proper order.
**An SAP Basis Administrator has the following technical skills:**
+ Troubleshooting and problem solving
+ End-user focused approach during the implementation of process improvements
+ Ability to aid new SAP upgrades, installations, and maintenance
+ Experience with SAP tools such as SAP NetWeaver, JAVA system administration, SAP Solution Manager 7.2 or higher, and ABAP programming.
+ OS administration skills (mainly Linux)
+ DB administration knowledge (mostly HANA)
If you participate in the 3 semester-long SAP Basis VT program you will get the basics of all the above tasks!
In order to complete the program you have to participate in three projects of different departments. These are:
+ Product Support – In various SAP Core teams
+ S/4HANA Cloud Operations

**You can select the following projects:**
+ Vocational Trainee for HANA and SAP Core Product Support’s teams
+ Participate in a customer project at the Field Services/Consulting organization
