Abbott in Ireland
In Ireland, Abbott employs more than 3,200 people across 11 sites. Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third-party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial operations in Dublin and shared services in Dublin and Westport. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range of health care products including diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946.
Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division – Cootehill
Abbott Nutrition in Cootehill manufactures infant nutritional products for the export markets. The facility is dedicated to providing products of the highest quality standard to its customers.
Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.
Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide.
Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.
We are now looking for Project Leader Quality and this position will include the following:
+ Review product and process quality document and assure compliance with Abbott Nutrition Policies and applicable regulations.
+ Facilitated and document risk assessments
+ Provide quality expertise on MVS projects, ensuring no quality, food safety and consumer experience impact
+ Support development of new and efficient processes, which provide an improvement to cost margin
+ Works with functional peers and operations to develop and implement corrective actions
+ Exhibits technical competence in data analysis and product related calculations.
+ Collaborates across the technical portion of the organization
+ Identify/gain agreement on design criteria, negotiate compromises, balance quality with other criteria across all functional areas
+ Displays working knowledge of relationships between regulations, labeling, process and product.
+ Displays working knowledge of global country regulations and policies related to Abbott’s nutritional products and assures products meet regulations
+ Assures that the design and testing for all Abbott Nutritional products are fully compliant with applicable regulations.
B. S. in Science Related field (Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or other technical science area); Masters degree a plus
+ Proficient technical writing skills; able to effectively and concisely communicate issues.
+ Ability to effectively organize and communicate technical information
+ Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritional products.
+ Knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
+ The incumbent must have the ability to work and interact with many cultures in many time zones, and be capable of interpreting and analyzing technical data from different regions for decision making.
+ Ability to work independently and/or function with minimal supervision.
+ Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and analytical thinking.
+ Minimum 1 years working experience in the food/nutritional industry and experience in the scale- up and commercialization of product innovations.
This position reports to the Sr, Project Manager, Quality/MVS. Ensures that all Abbott Nutrition products impacted by MVS related projects meet the highest standards for quality and food safety required by regulations.
Also, responsible for determining trends in the supply chain and adapting or transforming quality processes to achieve breakthrough improvements.
