New Process Development Engineer

The Thermal Centre of Excellence (CoE) business unit in Bromborough, UK services the Thermal Product division by supporting current business (through QC and forensics, project management and H&S regulatory compliance) and developing new business (through innovation in chemistry, process and application of high temperature insulating refractories).

As the New Product Development Engineer you will bring new processes and production capabilities to the Thermal Products Division that will enable step-change advances in the business, including safety, cost and product offering. You will also provide technical consultation and expertise to the Operations teams and to act as their liaison to the Centre of Excellence.

The role reports directly to Project Lead – New Process Development

Qualifications

* Engineering Degree, Masters (Mech Eng, Elec Eng or Process Eng)

* Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial process or project management, including Capex programmes from specifications to implementation and commissioning

* Demonstrate a strong team-based approach to leadership, and operated in a similar decentralised business before with demonstrable personal credibility

* Working knowledge of Stage Gate methodology and other PMO tools.

* Knowledge and experience in product development, process development for fibre, IFB and monolithic manufacture methods would be desirable.

* Experience writing Capex proposals and a strong understanding the financial and business administration inputs beneficial.

* Working Knowledge of Automation and Industry 4.0 desirable

* To support Thermal Products Division in building strength in Materials Science, Application Engineering and Customer Focus

* Engage with new technologies and innovations. Working with trials both external and internal to examine potential product needs delivery and assist in Capex programs to implement identified technologies.

* Work in a safe manner, conform and with the ethos of a zero harm for new innovations

* Guide and support the CoE fibre line team, and report supporting evidence of work packages

* Work with a project management methodology and stage gate approach

* Function as a technical consultant to the operations group and act as their liaison to the Thermal CoE and greater Morgan technology community.

* Identify new technologies to assist with the manufacture of products relating to the Thermal Products Business

* Establish the need for technology change and participate in technology roadmap activities

* Form links with external suppliers to conduct proving trials with their products. Develop product design specifications so that external technologies can link with standard TDP equipment

* Bring in supplier technologies in house to conduct first off trials

* Develop capex to enable plant adoption

* Form contact with product management group to identify market trends, equipment development to address new product needs: product type, form and volume.

* Develop new downstream processing to enable penetration into new markets or high margin markets – establish the need for technology change

* Form links with regions and plants to identify locations for trials of new innovations, plan and implement new technologies and coordinate with local resource to develop strategic capex programs

* Conduct RA and management of change procedures, and form a strong link with the global operations team to action new technologies and large trials, incl progress reports, procurement issues, global standards and quality conformance and adherence.

* Work with the operations to overcome large issues that would yield large returns across the TPD group

* Apply project management methodologies including status reports on plan versus actual on progress and budget.

The role will require domestic and international travel in support of the assigned projects and the organization in general. This may include leading trials within Morgan as well as with third parties.
